What you will need
Before we dive deep into the content, let's first cover the instructions. The whole henna mixing process depends on the product you're using. For this we are using pure henna powder. Here’s a list of items that you need.
- Pure Henna Powder
- Large Bowl for mixing
- Plastic Wrap
- Scissors
- Mixing spoon
- Water or coffee

How to Make Henna Paste?
Step 1: Using the Henna
Open the henna powder packaging using scissors and pour all the powder into the bowl. Depending on your usage, you can leave the leftover in the in package and make sure its closed airtight.
Step 2: Mixing the Powder
Gradually add water or coffee into the powder as per consistency. Stir the mixture with a spoon and make sure that it's not too thin.
Step 3: Stir, Stir, and Stir
The stirring part is the main in the whole process. If the substance appears too thick, add additional liquid to avoid getting too runny. Also, if lumps form in the bowl, smash them to form while stirring. You don’t want the henna to be too thick or thin.
Now cover the henna with a plastic wrap and let it sit out for 8-10 hours at room temperature.
Step 4: Explore your creativity
Once the timeframe is completed, you can use the henna paste. Apply it on your hair or make funky styles of henna tattoo.
How to make Henna Paste for Hair?
The process for henna hair paste is a bit different. It depends on the type of dye color you want on your hair. Depending on the color you select, you may have to add 1-2 more ingredients. The rest of the procedure is the same.

How to Store Henna
If you have plans to use the henna later, follow the guideline provided below.
- Henna Powder Storage
Henna is safe to use when stored in the freezer. Once you use the powder, just wrap the package tightly and store it in your freezer. Make sure that it's tightly concealed and no other condensation will get in the way.
Note: Check the packaging for the expiration date.
- Henna Paste
We always recommend you to use fresh henna paste. However, you can store it in the freezer and use it after 4-7 days. Anything longer than this will have significant change in results.
More About Henna Paste
The reason why henna is recommended over traditional dyes is that it’s free from preservatives and harmful chemicals. Sure the results are not as fast as a hair dye, they are still reliable in the long term.
